The draft directive on signing an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Union on extending the 16 November 2000 bilateral Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology through an exchange of diplomatic notes was submitted by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Union, hereinafter referred to as Agreement, is the foundation for bilateral science and technological cooperation.
The Agreement is implemented in the form of joint research projects, as well as projects in the area of technological development and demonstration activity, including fundamental research. For example, the parties ensure free access to and joint use of research equipment, data collection, visits and exchanges involving scientists, technical experts and other personnel, the organisation of seminars, symposiums, working meetings, as well as information exchanges regarding practical cooperation, legislation, regulation and programmes pertaining to such cooperation.
Under Article 12 of the Agreement, the document may be extended for subsequent five-year periods. The deadline for extending the Agreement in line with Government Directive No 1530-r of 17 October 2009 expires on 20 February 2014. This signed directive extends the term of the Agreement for another five years.
This directive will promote the expansion and strengthening of science and technological cooperation between the Russian Federation and the European Union.
