The draft federal law would amend Article 9 of the federal law On Immunisation Against Infectious Diseases to add the pneumococcal vaccination to the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations.

The draft law is aimed at reducing child mortality and disability through the mass immunisation of children under the age of one against pneumococcal infection.

Implementation of the draft federal law would be supported by budget funds allocated by the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Healthcare in 2014-2016: 4.08 billion roubles in 2014, and 6.12 billion roubles beginning 2015, which will also cover booster doses.  

The draft law was debated and approved at the Government meeting on October 3, 2013.
