Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin paid a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan and met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe. Marat Khusnullin and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda chaired a plenary meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan.
“Russia and Tajikistan are strategic partners and allies. Owing to constant attention and support from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Russian-Tajik cooperation develops consistently and is filled with new content. Today, our relations basically encompass all key spheres, including trade and investment, the industry, energy, transportation, education, culture and digitalisation. We are posting more impressive bilateral trade volumes. In the first six months of 2026, the bilateral trade turnover soared by 25 percent and reached 75 billion roubles. We are working actively to expand mutual agricultural produce deliveries involving major Russian traders and retailers. Since early 2026, freight traffic volumes increased by 12.6 percent. I would like to thank Tajik colleagues for constructive dialogue. I am confident that joint work at all levels will serve as a worthy continuation of relations between Russia and Tajikistan,” Marat Khusnullin said.
He added that Russia and Tajikistan had almost completed the transition to mutual payments in national currencies; in the first six months of 2026, they accounted for 98.9 percent of foreign trade commodity contracts’ payments, with export increasing by 26.5 percent and import – by 3.8 percent.
Interregional cooperation is developing actively; 12 agreements have been signed between Russian and Tajik regions.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, Kohir Rasulzoda, noted, on his part, positive interaction dynamics. “For the Republic of Tajikistan strategic partnership with the Russian Federation remains a constant key priority. Our cooperation is based on a substantial legal framework and develops successfully due to political will and constant attention from the leaders of our states. The accurate implementation of all long-term plans is seen as our main objective during the commission’s work. Russia confidently remains Tajikistan’s leading economic partner and accounts for over 22 percent of the country’s foreign trade turnover. The energy sector is a strategic foundation of bilateral relations. Our common goal is to forge a stable cooperation model. We trust each other and voice a common strategic interest. I am confident that all adopted decisions will lay a reliable foundation for new joint projects and will expedite the development of Tajik-Russian relations,” Kohir Rasulzoda noted.
Following the meeting, the parties signed the protocol of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan.
During his working trip, Marat Khusnullin visited the National Theatre of Tajikistan in Dushanbe that opened in August 2026. The theatre has become one of the largest and most significant national cultural sites. Its main hall seats 2,500 spectators, and two other halls accommodate 1,115 and 1,000 people each.
