Yury Trutnev meets with First Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Nyo Saw
Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev met with First Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Nyo Saw on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum.
“Esteemed Mr Nyo Saw, colleagues, I am delighted to welcome you to Vladivostok at the Eastern Economic Forum. I would like to thank you for your attention to and displaying interest in our country. This is your second visit to Russia in 2026. Today, representatives of over 80 countries have gathered in Vladivostok, at the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University. I hope that you will benefit from meetings in the format of the Eastern Economic Forum. I would also like to thank you and the leadership of Myanmar for supporting the policy of the Russian Federation,” Yury Trutnev said, while opening the meeting.
Participants in the bilateral meeting discussed the expansion of diverse cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in the Far East, including the helicopter manufacturing industry and the use of railway equipment, the fisheries sector, education and healthcare, logistics and tourism. They discussed separately the strengthening of humanitarian and cultural ties.
“The Far East is the fastest-developing region of Russia. The macro-region’s area makes up nearly 40 percent of its territory. President of Russia Vladimir Putin has defined the Far East’s development as a national priority for the rest of the 21st century. We are accomplishing tasks set by the President: industrial plants are built, city infrastructure is upgraded, and better living conditions are created for residents,” Yury Trutnev said.
First Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Nyo Saw expressed gratitude for the greetings to his delegation at the bilateral talks and the invitation to take part in the Eastern Economic Forum: “The President of my country attaches great importance to this Forum. He has sent me to participate in it. We see that the Eastern Economic Forum is an important platform for discussing both economic challenges and global political topics. Our Government intends to expand cooperation for the further strengthening of friendship between countries. Our President accomplished his visit to the Russian Federation a few days ago and he discussed in detail bilateral interaction with your President Vladimir Putin. Both countries’ responsible officials should implement these agreements in a successful and prompt manner.”
According to Nyo Saw, the Russian Far East can be a successful platform for mutual cooperation between the two countries: “Our Government is planning to open a Consulate General of our country in Vladivostok. I also would like to ask for assistance to this opening and ask for your support.”
Yury Trutnev, for his part, expressed readiness to render support to the effort to address this matter. “We will be pleased to work on the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Vladivostok,” he said.
Following the meeting, Yury Trutnev instructed the Governor of the Primorye Territory to find premises for the diplomatic mission: “We support this proposal. I have instructed Mr Oleg Kozhemyako accordingly. I think that the Rector of the Far Eastern Federal University Boris Korobets, will also consider available options. Some part of the University is outside of the Russky Island, we can look for what is needed there.”
