On implementing Presidential Instruction No Pr-753 (Clause 3) of April 4, 2013

The Government has reported on measures to implement Presidential Instruction No Pr-753 (Clause 3) of April 4, 2013 to take all necessary action to ensure the successful performance of the Russian Federation’s national student team at the 27th Summer Universiade (World University Games) in Kazan. In particular, the Government reports that, under a plan to train the Russian Federation’s national student team, the Ministry of Sport and the Russian Student Sport Union have approved an extended list of the national team’s members, which includes 1,397 athletes from 72 Russian regions.   

During four international trials at Universiade sport facilities, Russian athletes won 15 gold medals, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals. Eleven national sport trials were also held at Universiade facilities.

During the final stage of preparations, from June 13 until July 5, 2013, members of the national team will have training sessions, including at Universiade facilities.

Currently, all Russian prospective Universiade  participants, are undergoing a medical examination, and drug testing. Not a single team member has tested positive for drugs. In order to provide medical support for members of the Russian national student team, the Federal Medical-Biological Agency will open a medical/rehabilitation centre during the Universiade.

The arrivals timeframe of the Russian team and the place of residence at the Universiade village have been determined. Athletes will receive all the required equipment and uniforms.

In an effort to provide incentives for Russian athletes, the Ministry of Sport has decided to promote Universiade winners to Russian Master of Sport International Class.

The Government also stipulated cash bonuses for Universiade champions and prize-winners, as well as for coaches and other experts training them.

Under regulatory documents, the line-up of the Russian national student team, which will comprise 989 people, including 663 athletes, will be finalised and submitted to the International University Sport Federation by June 6, 2013.

In all, the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan will involve over 8,000 athletes from 175 countries who will vie for 351 sets of medals in 27 events.
