The Eurasian Economic Commission drafted the Treaty on Armenia’s Accession to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) of 29 May 2014 in cooperation with government bodies of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia, pursuant to the following decisions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of heads of state: No. 65 of April 29 2014, on implementing the action plan (roadmap) on the accession of the Republic of Armenia to the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation; and No. 71 of 29 May 2014, on implementing the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of heads of state оf 29 April 2014.
The Treaty is a fundamental document determining the agreement of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on the terms of Armenia’s accession to the EAEU.
The Treaty sets regulations that are different from those of the Russian legislation in customs and tariff regulation, intellectual property protection, regulation of trade in services, investment-related transactions and technical regulation. In accordance with Article 15, item 1, sub-item “a” of Federal Law No. 101-FZ of 15 July 1995, On the International Treaties of the Russian Federation, the Treaty is subject to ratification.
The Government of the Russian Federation reviewed and approved this document at a meeting on 7 August 2014.
