The Monument to the People’s Heroes was built in 1952−58 to honour the heroes killed during the Chinese people’s struggles of the 19th and 20th centuries. The monument’s pedestal features eight bas-reliefs made of white marble depicting the revolutionary struggle of the Chinese people from the 1840 First Opium War to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
